"As we enter the special main gate of the Zsolnay Quarter, the first building that immediately catches the visitor 's eye is the ice rink in Ginko Square. Above the gate entrance of the ice pile rises a Persian-themed ornamental tower made in 1893, the ornaments of which are the Mosque of Isfahan. Here we can see the most beautiful example of the use of pyrogranite in the Zsolnay District. The original of the tower was built between 1892 and 1893 for the exotic building of the Zacherl factory in Vienna. The orientalizing factory building in Vienna, most often called “Persian-style” in its time, evoking Islamic architecture, is nothing more than an indication that the factory’s raw materials were sourced from Eastern countries through the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. The reason for raising the duplicate of the minaret-shaped ornament above the ice pile with a floor space of a few square meters was that Vilmos Zsolnay once placed specimens of the most beautiful products on the factory site. The stack of rocks with the tower decoration raised on top is a magnificent sight in front of the minimalist building of the modern gallery next door. Vilmos Zsolnay loved nature and plants, so he took careful care of the garden around the family-owned factory. His work was assisted by a German gardener. Later, on the site of his terracotta house, the family built a contemporary “refrigerator”. The said ice pile was once an experimental plant where the sub-freezing behavior of ceramics was studied, but now a beautiful entrance and column is reminiscent of an industrial historical specialty. Due to the special atmosphere of the few squares under the columns, it opens its doors to various art events during festivals. "
