Museum of Ethnography - Budapest

Very nice place, however the workers do not control the roof space so much and people walk on the flowers and kill them :/ the exhibition was nice

The Building looks amazing and the design is top class , very interesting to visit and the view from the top can overlook so many beautiful places in Budapest

The new building is quite interesting. We only visited the part for which the admission was free (ceramics, miniature of Budapest) which was nice. The temporary and permanent exhibitions didn't seem that interesting to visit. We visited on a weekday and there were not that many people around.

This is an amazing architectural marvel. In the middle the building completely disappears, then it starts to ride and bend to the left and right, which is amazing. You can walk up to the top of the building, it also works sort of a lookout (you can also see the top of the Parliament). It's free to get to the top of the building and is open all the time. The real building with exhibitions is below the ground. Some of the exhibitions are free (e.g.: the stunning 1918 model of Budapest's downtown and the ceramics of the World. The paid exhibitions are always different, you may buy tickets inside the museum or you can buy on ligetplusz.hu (English language is available). If you register on the website you can get 10% off on everything in the City Park including the Museum of Ethnography exhibitions.

The first thing to note is the extraordinary design of this building designed to blend in, as far as possible, with the Park surroundings, 60% of the space is underground. The Ceramics exhibition is free with items from all ages, the oldest dated 4600 years ago. For the paid parts of this museum I found the "We have arrived" exhibition the most interesting. It presents ethnicity not via geographical zones, but through shared universal concepts like marriage, rituals, representation (artistic forms) etc. Walk up the sides of the museum for some great views. The outside design has an interesting story because the lines of design came from 20 different countries each contributing to one row along the museum side.

The Museum is amazing inside-outside. The exhibitions are interesting I loved them ? I am very content with it! The stuff were nice and helpful they gave me a full introduction about the exhibitions.

Absolutely loved it!! I was waiting for the museum to be completed and open with great expectation and it didn't disappoint. The space is massive and contemporary, sleek, and all the content is in double language, so in English too. The architecture is unusual hence interesting and beautiful, both inside and outside. The ceramics exhibition (free of charge) is lovely, colourful and well presented, taking up two walls on the spacious floor, -2, where a ticket/information office also is. The other two are upstairs, one at each entrance. The setup actually makes the visitor stop and marvel at the artifacts, which wouldn't probably happen if they were presented in a more conventional way! Again on the ground floor, there's a city model of Budapest in 1910, with tablets that let you choose categories of buildings as you point the device to the model and the different parts of the city, which you can then choose and get to know more, and another one of the Liget Project (the renovation of the city park, which is ongoing). There are two spots where video clips are shown and you can sit, with the other visitors passing by. While you walk up and down, as the structure inside is curved as you can see it from outside, you may see the temporary exhibition spaces beneath you through glass walls and have a peak at the objects on display (for these exibitions there's a ticket, all-in costs 3000 Huf). Overall, the space flows from one side to the other with no interruptions and you feel engrossed and can interact with it, so much so that everyone was really having a good time. Bar, restaurant, book shop and ethnoshop (with various objects on sale) are all very contemporary as well. Finally the landscaped roof garden ?. You need to climb up and down and experience the majesty of it, while you can sit around and take in the views too. It really was an amazing EXPERIENCE that I would recommend to anyone in Budapest!

Is this one of the most stunning pieces of 21st century architecture? I do think so. A half sunken steel ship in profile it has so many facets and points of interest. The roof garden "decks" are sublime and enabling interaction with the centre sculpture a wonderful addition.
