National Theatre - National Theatre

A lovely garden with beautiful sculptures, just for that it was worth the visit

Well, obviously, a theater cannot be good or bad in general but could only be evaluated in the context of the show you see upon your visit. I went there to see Attila Vidnyánszky's Passion so my opinion is based on that experience. Considering that this is the flagship theater of the country, the building is very disappointing. Not from the outside since whether you like or not is very subjective. I myself have no problem with it even though it's not to my taste. The interior, however, is cheap, rather claustrophobic, and dissonant. The play was interesting and have to acknowledge the great amount of work had been put in. But I also learnt that Mr. Vidnyánszky did not make it for me. He was expecting a rather simpler audience to whom he felt to explain every single take-home message slowly, and painfully loudly. No room for your own interpretation or thought-provoking moments. It's like a toddlers fairytale book with those hard colorful and very detailed tabloids that teaches very simple principles directly. Very nice but completely dry and dead scenes with no room for acting. Not a surprise that we had roughly 50 viewers only. Having this on a Saturday evening during the Festive season in the National Theatre of Budapest should provoke a debate within the administration.

I was in the performance of Romeo and Juliet. It was in Hungarian. I don't know Hungarian. But I loved performance! Definitely must visit

Great building with interesting park area around and the Tower of Babel. I am not able to comment on performance because I watched one in Bulgarian which was quite unusual but thought provoking.

Has a very nice area with a park. Very nice during summer or sunny days in general.
