★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A reformáció debreceni térhódítása következtében a városban 1552-től lényegében megszűnt a római katolikus egyházi élet és csak 1714-től lakhattak ismét katolikusok Debrecenben.
Az 1898-ban alapított Vagongyár (MÁV Járműjavító Üzem) alkalmazottainak többségét bevándorolt, sokszor idegen nemzetiségű, külvárosokban élő munkások és tisztviselők alkották, akik között nagyon sok katolikus vallású volt.
Beilleszkedésüket a Debrecenben elevenen élő kálvinista és Habsburg-ellenes tradíciók is nehezítették.
1936-ban a vasút telket adományozott a katolikus egyháznak, ahol felépült a város harmadik római katolikus temploma, a bejárata felett egy szárnyaskerékkel.
1938. okt. 16-án szentelték fel, Szent István tiszteletére.
As a result of the expansion of the Reformation in Debrecen, Roman Catholic church life essentially ceased to exist in the city from 1552, and it was not until 1714 that Catholics could live in Debrecen again.
The majority of the employees of the Wagon Factory (MÁV Vehicle Repair Plant), founded in 1898, were immigrant workers, often of foreign nationality, living in the suburbs, among whom there were many Catholics.
Their integration was also hampered by the Calvinist and anti-Habsburg traditions alive in Debrecen.
In 1936, the railway donated a plot of land to the Catholic Church, where the city’s third Roman Catholic church was built, with an impeller above its entrance.
Oct 1938 It was consecrated on the 16th, in honor of St. Stephen.
