A szobrot a Kőrösi Csoma Sándor Országos Emlékbizottság állíttatta születésének 200. évfordulóján. Felavatására 1984. április 11-én került sor, amelyet az akkori indinai nagykövet, A. R. Dev is megtisztelt jelentétével.

A mészkő alapon álló 70 cm-es mellszobrot Kamotsay István készítette 1982-ben.
Csoma Sándor Kőrösi is a Szekler-Hungarian linguist, a librarian who has created the Tibetan-English dictionary as the first Tibetologist in the world.
The statue was erected by the National Memorial Committee of Kőrösi Csoma Sándor on the 200th anniversary of its birth. Its inauguration took place on April 11, 1984, honored by the Ambassador of India, A. R. Dev, at that time.
