According to the official version, on the eve of the 1848 revolution, on March 5, the poet-revolutionary Sándor Petőfi visited the Bakony Hotel. The plaque preserves the memory of this. The reality is a little more exciting than that. At that time, Petőfi held lecture evenings for income, one of the stops of which was Veszprém. The inn was not yet called Bakony Hotel, but was commonly known as Stingli. Petofi heard about the Paris uprising in the Stingli and held a "" rebellious "" evening instead of literature, which local audiences weren't really a buyer of. Namely, 16% of the city's population at that time was a German-speaking, more than half of the industrialist group supporting culture had a German identity. This is how the Veszprém revolution of 1848 was left behind, and Petőfi left the city at dawn on the 6th of his frustration ... In the beautifying recollection of Károly Szuper (1821-1892), the former stage director of Petőfi, he takes this for a bad time, even though that day the theater was full of the performance that Petőfi himself attended as a spectator ... The memorial plaque was commissioned by Ferenc Óvári by Imre Csikász and inaugurated on March 9, 1913. He modeled the poet on the basis of the only surviving daguerreotype made of him in 1844.
