Saint Marton church

Very nice little church, real little pearl!

A beautiful historic church located in a quiet rural atmosphere.

Baroque church in the center of the village. It has a very nice garden, well-kept environment.

The tower dates from the 13th century and was created from the Roman watchtower. In front of the church is the Calvary.

The biggest "attraction" in Rajka is the Church of St. Martin. Today's church was completed in 1741, but its tower was built on the stones of a Roman castrum, according to locals. One thing is for sure: one of the windows of the weird strange tower is a beautiful example of Gothic. Strange mutilated ancient statues and tombstones are built around the church and in the church wall. In the small front garden, even a World War I memorial and a Baroque Calvary were “crowded” by enthusiastic believers. Since we could not get in, we thoroughly “inspected” the church. In the booth next to the main entrance you can see the baroque statue of St. Martin. On the perching horse, Martin is just dividing his cloak, but the beggar has been “blown away” by the storm of past centuries. At the side entrance, I will be noticing an imprisoned Jesus. This, as it turned out later, is the oldest of the sculptures straight from the Middle Ages. This one-handed- one of his hands was amputated during recycling- Jesus is called Jesus with a toothache. He recently won his lattice prison after the renovation. Anyway, his teeth don’t hurt, he’s sad because of his lost hand — I think.

A single-nave church built around 1300 with a straight shrine. Its age is evidenced mainly by the slit windows on the south façade. There was no sign of an early vault, it could have been a flat ceiling. In the middle of the 14th century, a stone helmeted Gothic window tower was built at the end of the sanctuary. The tower is the new sanctuary.
