The monument, the most iconic building on the northern shore of the lake, is part of the memorial park, so it can be visited during opening hours. The view is sumptuous, but I found the immediate surroundings of the monument (e.g., a flight of stairs) a bit neglected.

The entire memorial park is dominated by a huge obelisk. On September 29, 1848, he won a historic victory here over the vast armed of Jellasics of the army, which had been “collapsed” for just a few weeks. The fighting of our army astonished the Croatian pros, but so much so that they soon slipped out of here in the darkness of the night. The piquancy of the thing is that Lt. Gen. János Móga and Jellasics served in a regiment and were good friends before the battle. Did they stay after that? In fact, the Croatian Ban's 50,000 army was defeated by 17,000 of our soldiers like hail in April in the Mátraalj vineyards. There is also a statue of the Waist Yoga close to the obelisk. Anyone who walks up to the monument should take a few minutes to look around the landscape. The area is magical! I’ve been fascinated by every season already, my big favorite is early spring. Close to the obelisk is the headstone of Arad 13 and Count Lajos Batthyány. The headstones were made by woodworker József Csibi, and the bronze portraits on them are the work of sculptor József Világhy. The attentive observer notices a twisted rope on some head trees and a ball pattern running around others. This shows who was executed.
