★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My brother and I booked a tour with Budapest Explorers through Airbnb. We did the "Downtown Budapest with a Historian" tour. Our tour guide was Gabor.
The tour was ok. It was certainly filled with information about the city and as advertised...the history of Budapest. We covered a good amount of territory and even hopped on Budapest metro for a trip to a nearby site. Great city with plenty to see.
The tour felt disjointed. It did not flow very well. The tour failed to connect one landmark to another or place the sites into context of Budapest history. It was more of a "here is this and there is that" tour. I am confident with more practice, the tour will continue to improve and become more polished.
For Gabor, he was a nice guy...very knowledgeable. There were times in between sites like when we were riding the subway that were pretty quiet. I found myself pulling recommendations and additional information out of him. He is not the type of tour guide that fills up downtime with conversation.
Ever tour has a story to tell. Budapest Explorers is still working this one out in my opinion. I think Gabor has a solid breadth of knowledge that he can build on for future tours.
