By then, however, the amount of donations received had already exceeded the actual cost of the statue, so the city spent the remainder on the cast-iron fence surrounding the Kossuth statue. When the statue was inaugurated, it stood on the west side of the square, until the square was renovated during an EKF project, after which it moved in front of the current government window building, on the north side of the square.
