Monuments and memorials to the Katyń Massacre in Budapest

Monument to the Katinyi Massacre On September 29, 2008, the Municipality of Budapest and the Government of the Republic of Poland won the public international competition to commemorate the victims of the Katyn massacre. The monument was won by the design of sculptor Géza Széri-Varga and his son, the architect Zoltán Széri-Varga, which provided a “simple, clear, comprehensible, didactic transcript of reality”. The completed work was inaugurated in the presence of the Polish and Hungarian heads of state on April 8, 2011. On the side of the rebuilt park facing Bécsi út, two memorial oaks were planted in memory of the artillery officer Emánuel Aladár Korompay and Rudolf Kuehnel Oskar of the massacre. At the heart of the monument is a giant black granite cube of regular shape, symbolizing a secret that has been silenced for decades, hidden by a nearly four-foot-long, pierced rusty iron cube. The design of the pierced surface is patterned like a forest, reminiscent of a massacre site, and the slope symbolizes trees swaying due to the wind and storm. At night, the monument receives interior lighting. Statue of Prince Árpád An independent public statue depicting Prince Árpád has not been in Budapest so far. At the same time, the space in front of the Árpád High School in Óbuda, where the newly inaugural equestrian statue faces Nagyszombat Street, was considered a suitable place to place the work. Prince Árpád, the leader of the conquering Hungarian tribal alliance, from whom the dynasty derived from him was named "gave the country four princes and twenty-three kings." About the statue: the prince sits on his horse in age-appropriate attire and armor, with a serious expression on his horse commensurate with his rank and reputation. In his right arm sits a falcon ready to fly, suggesting hunting rather than military operation. A plaque in front of the statue - in Hungarian and English - reads a quote from Anonymus: "A few days later, all of Árpád's leader and all his main men withdrew from the island by common determination, agreement and free will, and camped outside Soroksár to the waters of Rákos. they are brave everywhere, and no one can resist them, they crossed the Danube.The harbor where the crossing was carried out was named Magyar-rév because the seven princes, who were said to be seven Hungarians, sailed there on the Danube. they hit the Danube to the clouds ... "

A metal cube with cut-outs in the shape of trees, inside is another cube, probably from granite, commemorating the mass murder of Polish officers and policemen in Katyn. Next to it were planted two oaks commemorating two Hungarians who also died in this murder. Thank you Hungary for the memory !!! ???

Something worth seeing being a Pole in the Hungarian capital. Rather hard to call it a tourist attraction. Nevertheless, it is proof of friendship between our nations.
