Very beautiful, impressive statue, a real attraction for Debrecen and the city center and the whole main square!

This magnificent statue is a great choice as he proclaimed the independence of the country in this iconic building.

A large group of beautiful sculptures for which the yellow mass of the Great Church has always been an imposing backdrop. Although even in the late 1890s a decision was made to have a statue, it still took 20 years for the story. The figure of the soldier saying goodbye to his mother on the right side of the main figure became sadly actualized. The central figure in the statue is Lajos Kossuth, who stands alone on a five-meter-high limestone pedestal. There is a relief on the back of the pedestal. On the left, Imre Szacsvay, who was the editor of the Declaration of Independence as the secretary of the National Assembly, held the parlor in his hand. Next to it is the statue of the second president of the main building, Baron Zsigmond Perényi. They were both executed on October 24, 1849. Mihály Könyves Tóth, a Kossuth-party camp pastor, rises behind them. He, too, was sentenced to death, but by grace was changed to twenty years in prison. He was released after eight years in captivity, but his hands showed traces of heavy handcuffs for many years to come.

In the square stands the statue of our father Kossuth, the crown of the square. There was another flower statue in the square called Hope in Togetherness. The statue is reminiscent of the mutilated homeland, the disgrace of Trianon.

The festive city center is beautiful. Debrecen has done a great job !!! I can only congratulate you. We live in Szeged..we thought that our city was at the forefront ... well I can say that Debrecen is more wonderful !!!!
